Radiating Hope: Connecting Our Energy for a Brighter Future
It's undeniable that the world feels very heavy at the moment, filled with challenges that seem insurmountable and all consuming. Social media and relentless news cycles often amplify the feeling of bleakness, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer scale of global issues. However, amidst this figurative, and sometimes literal, darkness, I thought it important to remind us all of a profound truth: we are not powerless. There is light.
”Action is the antidote to despair” - Joan Baez
To explore this further, I would like to talk about energy - a fundamental aspect of reality. Energy, which is known as a core concept in physics, cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed. We experience it in everything: from the smallest particles to the largest structures in the universe.
When we speak about it in metaphysical terms, this can translate to the understanding that we are all part of a unified field of consciousness. (NB: this is not yet a scientifically established theory - it is one frequently spoken about in the realms of quantum physics and with philosophical and spiritual perspectives, amongst others.)
As an example, how many times have you been in a situation where, without using any of your ‘known’ five senses - some scientists suggests there could be anywhere from 22 to 33 human senses - you can feel a distinct shift in the energy around you and you can ‘sense’ tension in the air or unease or perhaps joy and happiness. It’s palpable. It can feel like a ripple in the energy around you.
This could be another way that we sense each other beyond the five senses; how our emotional and energetic states can bleed into the shared space around us (for those of us old enough, you could imagine the Ready Brek glow.) On a scientific note, Caltech explored the phenomenon of entanglement at a subatomic level: What is Entanglement and Why Is It Important.
Another way to think of it could be like this:
The Law of Vibration: Everything in the universe vibrates at a specific frequency. Our thoughts, emotions, and actions are all forms of energy that emit vibrations. How would our lives change if we understood that positive vibrations attract positive experiences, and vice versa?
The Law of Correspondence: "As above, so below; as within, so without." Hermes Trismegistus, The Emerald Tablet. An understanding that our inner world reflects our outer reality. By cultivating inner peace and harmony, we create a more peaceful and harmonious world around us.
The Law of Relationality: We are defined by our relationships, to each other and to the world around us. Our actions are not isolated events; they can be viewed a threads in a vast, interconnected tapestry - or a large version of Tom Daley’s knitted jumpers.
So, the big question is this: how do we harness this knowledge to create positive change?
Cultivate Inner Peace: We can begin by focusing on our own energy. Practicing mindfulness, meditation, or any activity that brings a sense of calm. When we are centred and grounded, we radiate positive energy, which in turn influences those around us.
Intentional Action: Every thought, word, and deed carries energy. Choose to act with intention, focusing on kindness, compassion, and empathy. Even small acts of generosity can create a ripple effect and have a profound impact.
Connection and Collaboration: Recognise that we are all interconnected. Reach out to others, offer support, and build communities based on shared values. When we come together, our collective energy becomes a powerful force for positive change.
Shift the Focus: The narrative push of ‘power’ being in the hands of only a few, is a societal construct. True power resides in the everyday lives of individuals - being present in this moment. It's in the strength of our communities, the resilience of the human spirit, and the collective ability to create change. We are the many and we hold the true power.
Embrace Hope: Hope is an active choice. It's the belief that we have the ability to create a better future, even in the face of adversity. By focusing on solutions and possibilities, we amplify the energy of hope and inspire others to do the same.
"Be the change that you wish to see in the world" - Mahatma Gandhi
Here are some resources to help you explore further:
TED Talk: "How do you explain consciousness?" by David Chalmers: This talk explores a couple of David’s ideas that consciousness might be fundamental and universal; that it might also be continuous with nature. This talk helps to show how consciousness could be a part of the unified field.
Podcast: "On Being with Krista Tippett": This podcast delves into the big questions of meaning and purpose, offering insights into human connection and spiritual exploration.
Article: "An Experiment in Interconnectedness" by Dr David R Hamilton: This is a truly wonderful blog providing a real-world example of how interconnectedness can show up. It offers a practical demonstration of how our thoughts and intentions can have effects beyond our immediate physical presence, and the direct impact it can have on others.
To conclude: we are not merely passive observers of the world; we are active participants in its creation. By being conscious about how we use and share our energy, and by connecting with others, we can create a brighter, more hopeful future. It’s important to remember that our collective power, rooted in our shared energy, is far greater than any perceived power held by a select few.
